It is not to exclude that everyone has an eye for special mounts like Ivory Raptor, Zulian Tiger, Winterspring Tiget etc, all of which are partly interested in it, to not mention you actually spend some time sitting on these awesome animals. 
I have a thought or an idea that customized server mounts with special designs had been awesome.
I think that players could have achieved these with either a slightly higher price on donations in the store, or mount tokens that could be obtainable through 5-man dungeons such as RFC only in another dungeon say when UBRS, LBRS, Deadmines?
The cooler the mount looks or even more special it is, the farm should've been harder more Mount Tokens
If you have 5 customized mounts it should be maybe two mounts at 250 Mount Tokens and 2 that 500 Mount Tokens and one that 1000 Mount Tokens.
1 boss dropper 1 token for each player so it is just getting the group, everyone is there getting the same reason but the difficulty is great and you spend time to farm this.
Something I think people can enjoy and spend their time on, if they're getting bored doing PvE/PvP and get they're toughts on cool animals
I like the idea of custom mounts, your idea how to obtain it isn't completely stupid though it needs some improvement but in the end, I don't see how they're gonna make this happen.
Requires a ton of work for some mounts to be added to the game and I'm still waiting for arenas, AV, Wpvp, 10m naxx, etc, so idc about those mounts that much compared to adding some real good content to retro.

Yeah I know it might require alot of work, but if there's anyone of the devs know how to edit a little bit with this kind of stuff it's not impossible, anyways I think that would've been an attraction farming this kind of stuff.
AV and Arenas are really good idea too I hope they can fix it, but Naxx is atm 5 manable so I don't know why they should make it 10 man able?
For the people that wasnt on discord when we had a voice call with GM Ossirian he said new mounts will be added soon and they could be for vote/donation points and he said soon so be patient cuz new mounts coming ^^
I believe if you want mounts from other expansions you need to have a custom patch - which puts a lot of players off. I would like to see some achievement/status mounts rather than pay to win mounts. Such as to defeat kt a certain amount of times, on that char, or defeat every boss in naxx a certain amount of times (may become common on the usual 5 classes but getting the kills on maexx for sub-par classes like druids and shamans would still be less common and at the very least would add to the replayability of the content).
Other quest ideas to reward mounts:
-Attain 5/10k HK's
-Attain R14
-Repeatable custom quest only completable by gm's for in-game event winners. Could have multiple cosmetic rewards to choose from for people who win more than once.
-raid mounts, complete the last boss in each "40" man raid 5 or 10 times. Sort of a "glory of the raider" equivalent for vanilla.
-maybe something to hand in all pieces of t1/2 for your class for cosmetic rewards. If the rewards are good enough people may actually run MC completely rather than just for tf bosses.
Anyway, there's a lot of stuff you can create to add more replay value to older content even for players in bis. Perhaps add a loremasters morph npc which offers custom model morphs depending which of the raid quests you've achieved. Perhaps turning into faerlina if you complete the associated naxx quest etc etc. Anyway getting somewhat off topic. If I remember I may create my own suggestions post and elaborate more on some of these ideas.
